What will you learn?

Welcome!

Everyone who completes this course starts from a different point. Your experience of being confident and assertive will be different to everyone else. So, try to avoid comparing yourself to other people - it is the quickest way to frustration and upset!

Instead, be kind to yourself and understand why you are where you are right now. And remember that there is always space to learn something new.

You are in the right place to learn new skills and ways of being. You don't have to take on everything - just focus on what works well for you.

The course outcomes

You will learn:

  • About your rights and how they link to confidence and assertiveness skills
  • The difference between passive, aggressive and assertive behaviour
  • How to say 'no' effectively
  • About non-verbal communication skills
  • How to recognise other people's behaviour and what to do about it
  • About lots of different tools, ideas and strategies to try in the real world
  • That you don't have to be assertive all the time!

This course equips you with the skills you need to feel more confident and assertive, and will encourage you to practise them little and often.

Remember: it's important to note that being assertive is not being brash, loud or bolshie. It is about finding a way through that works for everyone. Some people call this a 'win-win' situation, others don't like the term. Some call it compromise, others call it good sense.
